Areas of Emphasis:
This program deals with very important areas of emphasis including physical development, emotional maturity, and order through discipline.

  1. PHYSICAL: This allows each child to discover natural abilities and to progress from one level of difficulty to the next at his or her own growing edge. It promotes spatial awareness though agility, balance, and co-ordination.
  2. EMOTIONAL: Each child is successful and develops a positive self-image through basic skill mastery. Their feelings of well being and happiness produces a more co-operative, positive attitude toward other children, staff, and parents.
  3. ORDER: The sequential nature of Developmental Gymnastics provides teachers and children with a comfortable method of discipline. The children develope a sense of self-discipline through knowing what is expected and what is allowed.

The Growing Edge:
Every Child has a level of skill which represents his/her particular growing edge. This is the point on a progression which stimulates interest and presents challenge. The child is eager to respond to challenges which are presented with imagery and a vocabulary corresponding to his/her growing edge.

Progression:
The Developmental Gymnastics program is based upon the observation that physical skills are built one upon the other; that success is achieved and motivation kept high when tasks are presented to children in an orderly developmental sequence.

Motivation From Within:
The Developmental Gymnastics philosophy is that maximum achievement is attained when a child is motivated from within. The teacher presents an activity at the child's growing edge and allows the child time to develop his/her own response. This helps develop independent learning and enhances the feelings of success.

Challenge Without Threat:
A child feels the thrill of excitement and challenge when faced with a task geared toward his/her growing edge. But when the task is too difficult, it causes failure and is perceived by the child as a threat instead of the intended challenge. The Developmental Gymnastics program offers challenges in sequence to insure success and maintain the momentum of learning.

Training:
Because children need physical play, this important aspect of development should not be left to chance. Developmental Gymnastics teacher training takes only three hours and fulfills requirements set forth by the Texas Department of Human Resources. This program is registered with Texas Corporate Child Development Fund.

Promotion:
Anyone with a genuine interest in the physical and emotional development of children will appreciate the solid training behind your staff. A certificate showing that your center offers Developmental Gymnastics can be proudly displayed alongside your other credentials for parents' review.

Certification:
The Association for Kinesensory Teaching certifies those teachers who complete its accredited programs. Every child care facility and pre-school educational program should have one or more teachers certified in AKT programs. Teachers in public schools will want to be certified so as to reduce their liability and to make teaching more meaningful and fun. University Instructors will also want to be certified so as to prepare their students to teach gymnastics in the physical education classroom.

Who Will Benefit:
Children, teachers, parents, and day care administrators will all benefit from the program. Children will have advanced physical play, a basis for self confidence, perceptual development, and much more. Teachers will learn to guide physical activities, gain knowledge of the kinesthetic sensory systems, and learn how to manage active children. The home or child care facility will be a more secure place of the child, and there will be enthusiasm.

  1. Add more drawing power to your child care facility
  2. Provide more learning for the children in your care
  3. Enhance your relationship with the community you serve
